Information For Our Patients of Frederick Center for Dentistry

Your First Dental Visit

Your first dental visit as a new patient is essential in getting the best care for your smile. It’s a chance for us to learn about your oral health and for you to ask any questions or share concerns.

You’ll start by filling out some forms, like your medical and dental history. If you want, you can often complete these forms online ahead of time to save time.

You’ll meet Dr. Goyal and his team. He will ask about your dental goals and any issues you’ve noticed. Dr. Goyal will examine your teeth, gums, and mouth for any problems. Most new patient visits also include X-rays. These help us see things that aren’t visible during the exam.

If your mouth is healthy and time allows, you’ll usually get a dental cleaning to remove plaque and tartar buildup. This will leave your teeth feeling fresh and smooth. After the exam, our dentist will talk to you about your oral health, any concerns they found, and possible treatments if needed.

What to Bring to Your Visit

To make everything run smoothly, you should bring:

  • Identification: A photo ID.
  • Insurance Information: If you have dental insurance, bring your card or policy details.
  • Medical History: A list of any medications you take and details about past surgeries, allergies, or health conditions.
  • List of Questions or Concerns: If you have specific things you want to ask about, jot them down so you don’t forget.

What Happens at Routine Dental Checkups?

We recommend that you visit our dental office every six months. Here’s what you can expect at regular dental checkups:

Dental X-rays

X-rays are usually taken once a year or as needed. They help us see what’s happening below the surface, like cavities between your teeth, infections, or bone loss. Modern digital X-rays are quick, safe, and use very low radiation.

Professional Cleaning

A dental hygienist will clean your teeth using special tools to remove plaque and tartar. They’ll focus on hard-to-reach spots you might miss when brushing and flossing at home. Afterward, your teeth will be polished to make them smooth and shiny. The cleaning also includes a thorough flossing to remove any leftover debris.

Dental Exam

Dr. Goyal will carefully check your teeth, gums, and mouth for any signs of problems, like cavities, gum disease, or loose fillings. He may use a small mirror and probe to examine all areas of your mouth. He will also check your bite to ensure everything aligns correctly.

Screenings

As part of the exam, our dentist may perform screenings to look for early signs of serious conditions. During an oral cancer screening, our dentist will check the inside of your mouth, tongue, and throat for unusual lumps or spots. We will also perform a gum health screening to look for signs of gum disease, like swelling, redness, or bleeding.

Discussion and Recommendations

After the exam, our dentist will go over their findings. If you need additional treatments, like a filling or sealants, he will explain your options and create a plan. He may also give you tips for better at-home care. Dr. Goyal can recommend brushing techniques or specific dental products.

The Benefits of Routine Dental Care

During routine visits, we take the time to provide patients with individualized advice to create healthier smiles and maintain their overall physical well-being. We emphasize the importance of maintaining healthy teeth and gums. We pride ourselves in educating patients of all ages on how they can improve and maintain their dental health to avoid complex future dental problems.

Poor oral hygiene often leads to problems like tooth decay, which can cause loose and missing teeth. During your initial consultation with Dr. Goyal, he will discuss your medical history and lifestyle habits to create a personalized treatment plan.

Patient Resources

There are multiple helpful pages on our website as a resource for patients. Click on one of these pages if you want to learn more about our staff, services, and dental office:

Comprehensive Modern Solutions

Our dentists use the following state-of-the-art dental technology and treatments:

Facial Rejuvenation

Dr. Goyal offers Botox®, XEOMIN®, and Juvéderm® XC to his Frederick, MD patients. Botox and dermal fillers not only reduce fine lines and wrinkles in the face but can also be used to treat painful headaches caused by TMJ disorders. When injected into muscle tissue, botox and fillers relaxes the treated muscle and release the tension in the face.

Same-Day Dental Crowns

Using CEREC, or Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, Dr. Goyal is able to provide patients with dental crowns in just one office visit. CEREC provides digital impressions as well as CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing). These technologies use a camera, computer, and milling machine for the design and creation of dental crowns.

Laser Dentistry

Dental lasers are one of the most versatile, comfortable, and painless dental technologies used to aid in dental treatment. Lasers are used to whiten teeth, contour the gums, and remove cavities. Laser dentistry also reduces bleeding and swelling, as well as eliminating the need for drills and sutures. If you need gum disease treatment, a cavity removal, or want to address a “gummy smile,” we can treat you with dental lasers.
